Thor

Forth day of Raya. My lazy day. I spent my time lying on bed, watching Thor, his favourite cartoon-based movie. Thanks bibehh for the movie. I love you so much!

I love this movie. Bibehh gave me Captain America to watch the other day but it failed to catch my attention so, yeah. I think I love the movie Thor because of the stories and histories that lie behind the papers and tech. Thank you technology, you made my life easier. So, I searched for the history or should I call it the never-existed-history?, Thor. This is complicated as I have to read a lot of articles concerning the cosmology of Norse Mythology (mentioned in the movie as the ‘Nine Worlds’).

Thor, the God of Thunder, is related to the beliefs of the ancient Scandinavia (or Norsemen, before the Christianization of the kingdom). Okay, Scandinavia was a kingdom that was full of history of the Vikings, Old Norse, Christianization, etc and it includes three kingdoms now known as Denmark, Norway and Sweden. He wielded a hammer, Mjollnir, and related to thunder, storm, lightning, Oak trees, strength, destruction, healing, fertility and protection of the mankind. (Source: Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thor). So, if there was thunder or lightning, the Norsemen believed it’s the job of Thor. Thor is equivalent to the ancient Roman’s Jupiter (or Jove) and the ancient Greek’s Zeus who are also believed as the king of gods, and the god of sky and thunder. It is believed that Thursday was named after him (Thor’s Day), big thanks to Mr. John Suffolk for the knowledge that you have passed to me. That’s why I’ve always loved Maths. Allahu Akhbar.

Thor married Sif (which wrenched my heart because in the movie, he fell in love with Jane Foster! Yes, Thor tore my heart.) and has a daughter named Þrúðr (pronounced as Thruor but anglicised as Thrud). He also has children name Modi and Magni with a Jotunn named Jarnzaxa. Jotunheim is the land of giants who threatens the Midgard (one of the Nine Worlds) and Asgard; the giants are mentioned in the movie as the frost giants. So, a 'God' married a giant? Allahu Akhbar.

……… *wordless*

Okay, the story gets complicated when Tacitus’ name comes in, relating him to Hercules, Zeus’ son. And I got strayed to reading Lernaen Hydra which is then a Greek mythology. Lernaen Hydra is the multiple-head water serpent, EWW! From Norse to Greek! Boo! This is the main reason why I can’t watch movies. I know eventually I’ll be reading about the Spartans and the Trojans. =(

Happy belated birthday to my kitties, Morris and Luna. They just turned 9 yesterday. I love you two! <3
