Alhamdulillah ya Rabb. Congratulations cousin Julia and her two sweet children and another niece and nephew for the conversion to Islam. Me and bibehh went to the event together and got to break the fast there. I didn't get to snap a lot of pictures since I joined the Dikir with PESATU.
Anyways, I get to read a few chapters of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. I know it would take a few more days for me to finish this. There are 59 chapters altogether. Boo SBA! Boo marksheets! I have seen the movie with the same title but I think reading the book is way much better.
The story is about a boy named Pip (Phillip Pirrip) who fell in love with a girl Estella whom he described as a beautiful, self-possesed and scornful little girl, ignoring Biddy, an intelligent but poor young woman who obviously fond of Pip. However, Estella was raised by a wealthy spinster, Miss Havisham, who taught her to be cold and unloving to men thus she rejected Pip. Broken hearted Pip fled to London and eventually managed to improve his living condition. Estella married Bentley Drummle, Pip's great rival but had an unhappy marriage as the husband was abusive. At the end of the story, Pip returned to his brother-in-law, Joe Gargery, only to find Biddy marrying Joe. Pip met Estella who had become a completely different person but she was married again.
Such a heart-wrenching story to read. I wonder how Pip handles all this. Next on the list after Great Expectations is Lauren Weisberger's The Devil Wears Prada. =)
